3 things to know about mpox

(the virus formerly known as monkeypox)

Mpox is a very infectious virus that is spreading quickly in the U.S. and other places. Here's what you need to know.

1 Rash - The most common symptom is a pimple, blister or scab-like rash that can be found on the hands, face or genitals.

2 Avoid close contact - It spreads easily through skin-to-skin contact, through fluids like saliva and by touching surfaces with the virus.

3 Vaccines - People who have been exposed or are at-risk, including clinicians working with the virus and anyone with multiple sexual partners in the past two weeks in an area with mpox, should get vaccinated.
